The Southern Apprentice Challenge was held at the Southern Institute of Technology on Saturday 4 April 2009.
The Challenge is a work skills competition whereby apprentices pace themselves to complete a project in a tradesman like manner within a specific timeframe.
Categories included automotive technology, carpentry, electrical, engineering machining, fabrication, joinery, plumbing, and welding.
The Challenge was open to apprentices who have been in their apprenticeship for at least nine months after completing a relevant pre trade course, or twelve months if they have not completed any pre trade course.
Competing in the Challenge has provided valuable experience for apprentices who have gone on to compete in the biannual WorldSkills Competition.
